Canada Geese settle on golf courses, private ponds, and commercial retention ponds and remain only to create a nuisance. Each goose drops two to four pounds of excrement daily and creates tremendous noise.
Getting rid of geese! Nesting geese can be troublesome to say the least. Removing geese can be an expensive and never ending task. Geese removal / deterrents such as chemical sprays, noise makers, dogs, hunting, physical barriers and the like are costly, have unwanted side effects, and most of the time they just plain don’t work. Is the light that Away With Geese emits annoying to people too?
The answer to this is a simple ‘no’. The light emits about as much light as a 100-watt bulb. This is hardly noticeable to people at any time, especially during the day. However, it is extremely unnerving to geese, as the geese are very critical about their nesting areas and choose to not reside by a consistent annoyance. Otherwise, the device is hardly noticeable to people at all; the base and housing are simple, black, and blend in very well in the natural environment.
Will the Away With Geese product work year-round?
In warmer climates, if temperature remains above 35 degrees, the product will provide continuous service year-round. In areas where temperatures fall below 35 degrees, we recommend taking the product out of the water or field in the winter. While no damage will come to the unit in freezing weather, the batteries will not charge in the lower temperatures. Place the product back outside in the springtime even though you may experience some cold nights. On those cold nights, you may see that the light is discharged, but it will recharge again on the next warm day.
What if I have geese at my pond that have recently had goslings? Will the mother and goslings be deterred?
Mother geese will not forsake their goslings under any circumstances. However, after thirteen to fourteen weeks the goslings are weaned of their mother and capable of flight. At this point, Away With Geese will deter both the mother and the developed goslings.
Do I need to bring my Away With Geese in for the winter season?
In areas where lakes and ponds freeze over during the winter, Away With Geese can be removed, as geese in these areas migrate to the south. Away With Geese should be returned to the water in the spring to continue protecting the water. In warmer climates, the device can remain afloat year around.
How many acres will one light cover?
Three acres are well covered with one light. When you have a par five at 580 yards with a pond/lake running all along one side you will need two lights. The first one should be placed ¼ of the way and the second at the ¾ mark of the water. This will give some over lapping but total coverage. |
